AP Style Editor ("we", "us") is a free tool built to help student journalists check articles for AP Stylebook compliance. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
What we collect
- Google account info: When you sign in, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We use this solely to authenticate you.
- Article text: Text you submit for checking is sent to our server for analysis. We do not store your article text after the analysis is complete.
- Usage logs: We may log anonymized query metadata (e.g., timestamp, number of suggestions returned) to improve the tool. These logs do not contain your article text.
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell, share, or disclose your personal information to third parties.
- We do not use your data for advertising.
- We do not train AI models on your article text.
Third-party services
Data retention
Your Google account info is stored as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time using the "delete account" link in the app footer.
Chrome extension
The AP Style Editor Chrome extension does not access or read any page content. It only opens a side panel that loads apstyleditor.com. No browsing data is collected.
